The Bank for International Settlements, the coordinating group of central banks, has appointed an expert in central bank digital currencies (CBDC) at the head of its innovation center for the euro area.
- Raphael Auer is currently an economist in the Innovation and Digital Economy unit of the Monetary and Economic Department of the BIS, the Basel-based organization said in a statement on Friday.
- He will take up his new role in February. The opening of the BIS Innovation Hub Eurosystem Center is scheduled for the first half of the year and will join existing hubs in places such as Hong Kong, London and Switzerland. The hub system was created in 2019 foster collaboration between central banks on financial technology developments.
