For the first time such a large number of black students were selected
Of these, 22 are ‘minority’ (Student of Color) and 10 are blacks. Never before has such a large number of black students been selected. On Sunday, US Secretary of the Roads Trust Elite Gerson announced the names of the 32 winners, who will represent the US in the ‘Roads Scholar’. In this, four American-Indian students Swati R. Swathi R Srinivasan, Vijaysundaram Ramaswamy, Garima P. Desai and Savarni Sanka.
Gerson said, “Never before have students been selected for ‘Roads Scholars’ online …” The 16 Roads Trust committees scrutinized the applications and then the strong contenders were interviewed online. After this, two students were selected from each district. The ‘Rhodes Scholarship’ bears the full expenses of students for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. The ‘Rhodes Scholarship’ was started in 1902 under the will of Cecil Rhodes. All these students will go to Oxford in October next year. There, all will study in areas such as social, biological and physical sciences. Gerson said, “All these have already become leaders and we are confident that their contribution to the development of the public across the world will increase with their careers.”
